Possible Government U-turn on FIT?
After the governmen
t’s decision to cut the rate of the Feed In Tariff (FIT) from 43p kWh to 21p per kWh two weeks ago to start on 12th December, before a consultation period was even over, a massive backlash has caused government ministers to reappraise their decision.
The burgeoning Solar PV industry is set to loose an estimated 20,000 jobs due to the speed and ferocity of the Feed in Tariff cuts after unpresidented take up of domestic PV schemes by home owners and property investors.
Carbon .gc has learned that Greg Barker, Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change is considering phasing in any changes to FITs. This would allow a large number of schemes in the offing under the previous rate to be completed. Installers would not then need to pay back large deposits which have been mad for planned projects and current equipment orders to be honoured.
